MARK VANDERPOOL | CITY MANAGER City of Sterling Heights The city manager is the chief administrative officer of the city appointed by the mayor and the city council. Mark Vanderpool’s responsibilities include oversight of the day-to-day operations of the city, enforcement of city ordinances, recommendation of policy issues to the city council and preparation of an annual budget

for the council’s review and approval. Vanderpool has more than 35 years of municipal management experience. He began in Sterling Heights as city manager on July 1, 2004 and previously served as assistant village manager for Skokie, IL. for 11 years. He also served as assistant city manager for Tecumseh, MI for four years, and as an administrative intern for Skokie for two years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in public administration/political science from Augustana College and a master’s degree in public administration from Northern Illinois University. Vanderpool is married to Kim, and has four grown children: Ashleigh, Tiffany, Marcus and Cole.

MARILYN VLACH | TREASURER, CENTRAL NEIGHBORHOOD Traverse City

Born and raised in the Chicago area, Marilyn moved to Traverse City, MI in 1986. While raising her family and choosing to be a stay-at-home mom, she made an intentional commitment to immerse herself in the community by volunteering in schools, church and other organizations. She continues to respond to volunteer needs in the community today. As a strong advocate for the health and safety of our children,

she held leadership positions on various non profit boards. Instrumental in the development of the Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center, a regional response center for the intervention and prevention of sexually abused children, she served on the board and continues as a member of the Fund Development Committee.
